Harold Bloch


Harold conducted his schooling at the Waterkloof Primary School and Pretoria Boys High School in Pretoria, and then Kearsney College in KwaZulu-Natal.

He completed his compulsory Military Training in the South African Navy leaving with Rank of Leading Seaman.

Harold obtained his M.B.Ch.B [Cum Laude] at the University of Pretoria; FCP [SA] while at HF Verwoerd Hospital, also in Pretoria; and M.R.C.P [UK] while working in Bristol in the United Kingdom on a British Council Bursary.

He was Head of the Dept. of Gastroenterology at the Johannesburg Hospital for five years, following which he commenced private practice as a Physician Gastroenterologist, in Johannesburg, from 1981 -1996, and then in again in Somerset-West, from 1997 to the present.

Harold achieved his Private Pilot’s Licence in 1982 and joined The Bateleurs in 2006. He has flown nine Bateleurs missions since then, and became a member of the Board of Directors in May 2011.

Harold is passionate about flying, wildlife photography, road and mountain biking, mountain climbing and trekking, scuba diving and horse riding.
