Commentary for Second Quarter 2011

Missions Featured in this Newsletter

In the second quarter of 2011 The Bateleurs flew seven missions.  These included a flight to count Ludwig’s Bustards in the Karoo, an aerial investigation of mining by Exxaro at Mtunzini, tracking collared cheetahs in the Kgalagadi, capturing aerial imagery of fly ash dumps near Witbank for 50/50, tracking collared wild dogs in the Waterberg, counting eggs in the nests of wattled cranes in the KZN Midlands, and tracking collared leopards in the Baviaanskloof. All seven of these missions were flown for beneficiaries well-known to us and who have made use of our services in the past.

Please read the post-flight reports from the pilots and passengers, and have a look at the accompanying photos, by clicking on the mission title in the list below.

The Bateleurs and MyPlanet (Woolworths)

myplanetcardAs always, we include here a reminder that we are a registered recipient of funds generated by the Woolworths MyPlanet programme, with a request that you consider applying for a Bateleurs-MyPlanet card today – and please to ask all your contacts to do the same.

The MyPlanet programme is a variation of the Woolworths MySchool programme and it is intended specifically for the support of South African environmental and conservation not-for-profit organisations.  Any Bateleurs member or well-wisher can apply for a MyPlanet card, to be swiped at the till with every purchase at any Woolworths store and other participating retailers.

Swiping your Bateleurs-linked MyPlanet card will ensure that a portion of the value of your purchase will reach our bank account.  This will cost you nothing at all.  You do not pay for the card and not one more cent is added to the cost of your purchases at Woolworths (or other participating retailers), but a small portion of the value of your purchase will be set aside by Woolworths for The Bateleurs.

You can apply for a MyPlanet card by -:

  1. Completing and submitting the Supporter Application form attached, OR
  2. Submitting an on-line application via the button on our webpage  www.bateleurs.org  OR
  3. Submitting an on-line application at  www.myvillagemyplanet.co.za   OR
  4. Linking a current Woolworths Card to the MyPlanet programme, by telephoning 0860 100 445.

The more people who swipe cards at Woolworths and other retailers for The Bateleurs, the greater is the environmental funding support for The Bateleurs and therefore the more missions we will be able to fly.  These are difficult times for grant funded organisations and this particular strategy could play a critical role in helping to supplement our coffers, so please could you help us by actively seeking new support for the Bateleurs-MyPlanet programme.

For statistical measurement of our participation, please drop us an email indicating the names of those people you have succeeded in signing up.

Please contact us if you have any queries about the MyPlanet programme as this applies to The Bateleurs.
